The Boys Season 4 finale left viewers with more questions than answers. Fans are eagerly awaiting the highly anticipated second season of the spin-off show, Gen V. Despite certain setbacks, Generation V will undoubtedly return. Following a delay in production and uncertainty about the show’s future, the new season has been rewritten and is already in production.
Prime Video just debuted some new video at San Diego Comic-Con, giving fans an exclusive first peek at the upcoming season. More information is undoubtedly on the way. It won’t be long till Generation V returns. However, due to the shift in creative direction, the second season is likely to be considerably different from what fans anticipated.
Prime Video Releases Gen V Season 2 Surprise Trailer at SDCC.
Even though Gen V Season 2 is officially still in production, Prime Video unveiled the first trailer. At San Diego Comic-Con 2024, the studio gave fans a tour of what to expect for the highly-anticipated second season of Gen V. The footage features an epic return to Godolkin University. Lizze Broadway’s Emma and those who were taken prisoner in the Gen V Season 1 finale are back at the University with Maddie Phillips Cate greeting them on their arrival after having just made a cameo in The Boys Season 4. The footage also features the voiceover of the new Dean, promising students better things in the new school year. Hamish Linklater is the new dean, Cipher. Aside from giving a first look at the dean, the footage also confirms The Deep’s involvement in this season. Chase Crawford’s character wears a hooded gown in the footage. The character made a cameo appearance in Season 1.
With the main cast of young characters back on campus, the footage also seems to set up Cate’s redemption arc. In Season 1, Marie blew up Cate’s arm to prevent her from brainwashing Jordan and other students. While Cate’s hailed as a Guardian, Vought blames what had gone down on Marie, Jordan, Emma and Andre. Fans who have familiarized themselves with The Boys Season 4 know that Cate and Sam are working for Vought. In the footage shown at SDCC, it shows that Cate has remorse for her actions in Season 1. While it’s unclear how Emma and the other students got permission to return to GodU, with Cate welcoming them back, it could mean that she had something to do with their release. Cate’s redemption arc could possibly take the character down a hard road. However, seeing how Marie has worked to build a better name for herself, Gen V Season 2 could potentially be working toward a grand forgiveness moment.
What Happened at the End of Gen V Season 1?’
Cate and Sam liberate The Woods and lead a group of imprisoned supes on a mission of carnage and violence on campus, completely upending Goddolkin University. Cate informs the inmates that they are superior to humans and suggests that they 𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁 everyone alive. A homicidal rampage quickly breaks out. Initially, the school can utilize a sound beacon to safeguard its human population. However, one of the captives destroys the speakers to continue the slaughter. Marie and the group are responsible for stopping them. They almost stop the savage inmates, but Homelander appears and fires a laser at Marie.
Unmistakably, the global news broadcast manages to turn the story around and paint Marie and the other heroes as ruthless campus 𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁ers. Cate and Sam are hailed as heroes. It’s likely that Cate has something to do with it, given that she’s the one with manipulation powers. The season finale ends with Homelander watching the broadcast and smiling. Marie and the other students wake up in a bright room with no doors. They appear to be dressed in hospital gowns. The mid-credits scene links the show back to The Boys, with Billy Butcher finding The Woods, the lab where Dean Shetty has been developing the Supe virus and experimenting on young Supes. It seems that Gen V and The Boys are heading toward some maddening crossovers.
How Does Gen V Season 2 Fit in The Boys’ Timeline?
With both shows airing almost back and back and continuing simultaneously, it might be confusing to figure out how Gen V Season 2 is going to fit into the entire The Boys timeline. However, it seems that the creative team behind the two shows are trying to keep things as simple as they can. It’s obvious that the Gen V season finale is leading fans back to The Boys’ Season 4, where some of these unanswered questions will be addressed. Showrunner Eric Kripke explained how everything is linked together in an interview with Variety. According to Kripke, The Boys Season 4 takes place just “a couple of days” following the events in Gen V. He said:
“In our minds, it’s only a couple of days after whatever the events are of Gen V. We try to keep the timeline super simple because all that folding-in-on-itself timeline stuff that I think other comic book universes find themselves having to do is just bewildering for me as a viewer. So it’s all very modular.”
The entire logic of The Boys and its spin-off is very straightforward. Gen V Season 2 would essentially follow the events after both Season 1 and The Boys Season 4. “It’s like there’s season 3 of The Boys, and then after that Gen V takes place, and then after that The Boys season 4 takes place. And then after that, Gen V season 2 takes place,” Kripke explained. “It’s all more like cars on a train than it is a plate of spaghetti.”
When Will Gen V Season 2 Be Released?
Gen V Season 2 is currently in production. The filming of the new season encountered a delay following Chance Perdomo’s death. The studio needed to make a decision about whether to recast his role. On July 16, production was resumed. The news came from the official Gen V account on X, announcing that “Class is in session.”
Prime Video has not announced the official release date for Gen V Season 2. They do expect to have the second season ready in 2024. Fans have speculated that Season 2 would likely arrive around mid-2025. Season 1 premiered roughly a year after filming wrapped. Many expect that the second season is likely to follow a similar timeline during its post-production. Of course, that’s under the assumption that things will run smoothly without delays.
Who Will Be In Gen V Season 2?
Before getting into the returning characters and new cast, one character who won’t be returning to the show has a crucial impact on the storylines in Gen V Season 2. Andre Anderson’s actor, Chance Perdomo, passed away in a motorcycle accident in March. The filming for the new season was temporarily put on hold due to this tragedy, as the creative team tried to find the best way forward. After much discussion, the studio reached the decision that they would continue with the show without recasting Andre, which means that Andre would be written off the show in a respectful way. The producers took it to Instagram to give fans the update, saying:
“As we continue to navigate the tragic loss of Chance Perdomo, everyone at Gen V is determined to find the best way to pay respect to his memory. We won’t be recasting the role because no one can replace Chance. Instead, we have been taking the time and space to recraft our Season 2 storylines as we begin production in May. We will honor Chance and his legacy this season.”
Andre was one of the lead characters in Gen V Season 1. He’s seen fighting alongside Marie and the other super-powered students in the season finale. After being defeated by Homelander, Andre lands in the sealed room alongside Marie, Jordan and Emma, wearing hospital gowns. The character is expected to appear in potential cameos in the wider universe of The Boys. With the news of Prime Video not recasting his role, it seems that Andre will be written out of The Boys universe.
