Jensen Ackles’ upcoming The Boys spinoff, Vought Rising, will follow in the footsteps of Fargo and True Detective. Prime Video’s The Boys is setting the bar high for R-rated superhero series, and with its growing popularity, there’s a need for more of it – which is why Jensen Ackles returns to the show in a new spinoff called Vought Rising.

The actor will be leading the show with costar Aya Cash, reprising their roles as Soldier Boy and Stormfront. Surely, this is going to be another fun-filled, ultraviolent story that will keep the audience at the edge of their seats.
Jensen Ackles Returns In The Boys Spinoff Vought Rising
During the San Diego Comic-Con event, actor Jensen Ackles formally announced the upcoming spinoff project from The Boys team. Entitled Vought Rising, the prequel show will take place in the 1950s and show how Vought International was established in America.
As witnessed in The Boys, this company will eventually form the superhero tag team called The Seven; later, they will get entangled in a dark global scheme involving the super-serum Compound V. A statement has been released by series creator Eric Kripke and showrunner Paul Grellong via Variety:
“We are excited to bring you the next deranged series from the world of ‘The Boys.’ It’s a twisted murder mystery about the origins of Vought in the 1950s, the early exploits of Soldier Boy, and the diabolical maneuvers of a Supe known to fans as Stormfront, who was then going by the name Clara Vought.”

They wrapped up their speech with a teasing note: “We cannot wait to blow your minds and trouble your souls with this salacious, grisly saga drenched in blood and Compound V.” Surely, there’s more to expect in the coming spinoff than just gore and action.
The Boys has become a fast-rising superhero franchise that’s almost as popular as Marvel and DC. Vought Rising is just one of its several spinoffs. In 2021, the web series Seven on 7 aired on YouTube, followed by the adult animated anthology series Diabolical. A second live-action television series Gen V aired in 2023. Another planned spinoff that’s currently in its early stage is The Boys: Mexico.
Fargo And True Detective Are Also Murder Mystery Shows Set Decades Ago
Chris Rock in Fargo / FX
Many famous and profitable crime thriller shows today are oddly situated in the previous decades.Vought Rising is set in the 1950s, which is similar to the fourth season of Fargo. The famous black comedy criminal drama is around a ruling crime organization in Kansas City, Missouri.
When discussing a murder mystery, the first thing that comes to mind is likely True Detective. Season 3 is set in the 1980s and takes place in the Ozarks spanning three decades, with partner detectives investigating the mystery of two missing children.

It remains to be seen how Vought Rising would compete with these iconic crime thrillers, but hopefully, it would find and take some valuable inspiration from them.
