Season 4 of The Boys will reveal several secrets, including those involving Annie January prior to Starlight.
During a Comicbook.com interview with co-stars Karen Fukuhara and Claudia Doumit, Erin Moriarty revealed what lies in store for Annie after rejecting Vought and her costumed identity to join the Boys’ crusade against Homelander. Specifically, on the topic of story reveals that surprised her, Moriarty admitted, “That’s kind of what’s gonna make this season hopefully meaningful for her. In other words, like the element of surprise, I keep saying this, it’s not arbitrary. It’s earned, right? She’s going through this existential identity crisis and it’s like ‘Yeah, the woman has earned this moment in her life.’ But the audience is going to think that, and none of us think that when we’re going through it. So that in itself was very interesting for me to read and hopefully will be… you know, make people feel less alone if they’re going through it.”
One such revelation, however, will be a negative surprise, with Moriarty teasing a confrontation between Annie and new Seven member Firecracker who “reveals a part of my past where I was a bully. And that was like… that for myself as Erin was something that I had to transcend. Like, ‘Oh, I was a bully in my past and I did that. And there’s a reason why I did that because my mom was doing this and this and that.’ I love that moment because that, to me, is the most unambiguous, malicious moment we’ve seen her exemplify. Everything else has been with a good intention. I love that they add those little bits in.”

Despite these unsavory past details, Moriarty’s co-star Jack Quaid revealed that Annie and Hughie’s relationship will be in a much stronger place compared to season 3. Trailers for season 4, meanwhile, previewed tensions escalating between Starlight and Homelanders’ followers in the wake of the Seven leader openly murdering one of her supporters, all while adding Firecracker and Sister Sage to his team’s ranks.
The show will also feature multiple crossover moments with 2023’s Gen V spinoff — including the utilization of its metahuman virus subplot — and, while showrunner Eric Kripke originally intended to wrap up The Boys after five seasons, he recently implied the series could run even longer.
The Boys Franchise Continues to Expand
Along with The Boys‘ primary storyline, Gen V season 2 is currently in production and a second spinoff, titled The Boys: Mexico, will be written by Blue Beetle‘s Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer. Homelander, meanwhile, recently debuted as a Mortal Kombat 1 DLC fighter, though Antony Starr did not reprise his role as the character.
The Boys season 4 premieres June 13 on Prime Video.
