Remember When Jason Aldean’s Wife Brittany Aldean Auditioned For ‘American Idol’?

Watch Brittany Kerr’s American Idol Audition

Brittany Kerr, who was also an NBA cheerleader for the Charlotte Bobcats, performed a cover of Joss Stone’s song “Spoiled” during her audition for then-judges Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez, and Randy Jackson.

Tyler remarked that Brittany had a “yes” vote from him before she even started singing, while Jackson said, “that did it for me” after listening to her sing a few bars of the song. Lopez, however, was not so easily convinced, eventually giving Brittany a “no” when it came time to vote.

“I like it [and] I like your melody, you’re on pitch, and you’re good-looking, you just gotta push it out a little bit more,” Tyler told Brittany at the time before telling her she needed to “project” a bit more vocally.

“I think there’s something there, I think she can develop,” Jackson agreed.

With two “yes” votes from Tyler and Jackson, Brittany advanced to the next round of the competition and made it to Hollywood.

Lopez later explained the reasoning behind her “no” vote, predicting that Brittany wouldn’t “survive a week.” And while Brittany made it to Hollywood, she was eliminated from the competition shortly after that.

Brittany Aldean did walk away from her short-lived Idol experience with something else, though.

Met Jason Aldean Following Stint On American Idol

Brittany met her now-husband, Jason Aldean, following her Idol stint. The pair came under fire for engaging in a public display of affection at a Hollywood bar while Aldean was still married to his high school sweetheart and first wife, Jessica Ussery. Aldean and Brittany apologized, and he tried to patch up his marriage with Ussery before they split in 2013.

Aldean later married Brittany in 2015. The pair share two children, son, Memphis, and daughter, Navy.

Despite not making it that far on Idol, Brittany still loves to sing. Brittany performed a duet of Blake Shelton’s “Lonely Tonight” with her country music star husband during karaoke at the Graduates’ Cross-Eyed Critters animatronic karaoke bar back in 2021.

Aldean also sang his wife’s praises when asked if the pair would ever record a duet together, and he said that he, might in fact, be up for it because Brittany is a “really great singer.”

Reflects On American Idol Journey

Brittany Kerr Aldean recently reflected on her American Idol journey and more during an interview with Beach Happy Magazine. In the interview, she also reflected on her time in Los Angeles, revealing that she decided to try out for the show, which aired in early 2012, on a whim after the NBA went on strike.

At the time, Brittany was dancing for the Charlotte Hornets basketball team and decided to give Idol a go despite her fear of public speaking. “I have a huge fear of public speaking,” she told the magazine. “It’s almost debilitating for me. The fact that I even did American Idol was kind of a God thing, which now makes sense because it also led me to Jason.”

During her “Road to Hollywood” backstage interview with American Idol, Brittany shared her excitement over getting to visit California.

“When I got my golden ticket, I was extremely thrilled, but I still feel like I’m in a dream and I just can’t believe it,” she said. “I can’t even fathom that I’m going to Hollywood. I’ve never been to California, so that’s great.”

In another YouTube video regarding her time on the show, Brittany praised her Charlotte Bobcats teammates and coaches’ support.

“The girls on the dance team have been super supportive. Not only the girls, but the staff also. And my coach, she’s amazing,” she said. “We’re all on this path together. It’s not just me because we are all in this limelight at this moment. It is ultimately based around the Bobcats dance team and not only me.”
