A portrait of Oprah Winfrey has been displayed at the US National Portrait Gallery.
The billionaire TV star is depicted smiling in a flowing purple dress with an olive branch in her hand.
Ms Winfrey joins president John F Kennedy and anti-slavery campaigner Harriet Tubman in hanging a portrait at the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC.
The painting was created by Shawn Michael Warren, a Chicago artist, who came to Winfrey’s attention when he included the talk show host’s likeness in a mural he painted in the city three years ago.
Winfrey told the crowd that the colour purple “has been seminal” in her life.
Her role in the 1985 film The Color Purple helped make her a movie star and she’s a producer on the upcoming film version of The Color Purple musical.
