Ciara Told the Adorable Story of Her First Date With Russ and How It Was Love at First Sight

Sure, celebrity news on athlete-singer power couples is reaching atomic levels thanks to Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift. But let’s not forget that Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson has a whole family with R&B singer Ciara.
The networks never got into the habit of showing her ad nauseam during NFL games like they do with Swift. But they’ve been married since 2016, and they seem genuinely happy with each other and free of the usual drama that surrounds famous couples.

Why Russell Wilson Was the ‘One’ for Ciara
Ciara was previously engaged to rapper Future, with whom she shares a son. But she ended that engagement after he cheated on her, and she was able to find Wilson shortly after in 2015 in a true “love at first sight” story.
Ciara joined The Kelly Clarkson Show on Tuesday to talk about a variety of topics, including her favorite Ciara songs, and of course she talked about her famous husband.
Ciara shared details on her first date with Wilson in 2015 and how she knew he was the one. “When you know, you know,” said the 38-year-old singer. “From day one, we sat down, we talked. It’s so funny, ‘cause we always laugh about the first time we met. We were talking too long and having such a good time and in such great conversation, we forgot to eat.”
Wilson, who divorced his first wife in 2014, reportedly told his friend in an elevator that “She’s the one” after just one date. Ciara felt the same way. “I called my best friend, Yolie, who’s my matron of honor, my makeup artist for legitimately 24 years — my best friend,” she added. “I said, ‘Yolie, I don’t want to jinx anything, but I think…’ And she goes, ‘He’s the one?’ And I go, ‘Yes.’”
Wilson’s quick reflexes may have sealed the deal the day he met her son and father.
“We were all in the house together. My dad was in the living room, Future was crawling on the floor, and there was a silver chair in the kitchen, and it was about to fall. [Wilson] legit slid across that kitchen, so smooth, and caught that chair, and I was like, ‘Oh, OK,’” recalled Ciara. “I mean, it was pretty 𝓈ℯ𝓍y, but it was pretty cute.”

The couple now have three kids of their own, and she has followed his career from Seattle to Denver to Pittsburgh.
Wilson Cleared for Practice
Wilson received good news this week when he was able to fully practice on Tuesday for the Steelers for the first time this regular season after injuring his calf in training camp. It’s possible he’ll be active for Sunday’s game in Vegas.
Given the way the Steelers have lost their last two games following a 3-0 start, Wilson could regain his starting job from Justin Fields very soon. Frankly, he deserves his shot as the much better player. The Russell Wilson stats in clutch moments are well documented, and in those same moments, Fields has been very unsuccessful throughout his career.
No matter what happens in Pittsburgh, Ciara likely knows Russ is near the end of his playing career. But they look to have a bright future together as they are “the one” for each other.
