Taylor Swift donated millions of dollars to hurricane relief efforts in Florida as the state recovers from one natural disaster, Hurricane Helene, and prepares to be struck by another, Hurricane Milton, Wednesday.
Taylor Swift donated $5 million to hurricane relief efforts Wednesday.
“We are incredibly grateful to Taylor Swift for her generous $5 million donation to Hurricane Helene and Milton efforts,” Feeding America, a nonprofit organization that supports those fighting hunger, said in a statement via X Wednesday.
“This contribution will help communities rebuild and recover, [provide] essential food, clean water and supplies to people affected by these devastating storms.”
Florida is set to be hit by a Category 4 hurricane called Hurricane Milton.
“People coming together can make a real impact in supporting families as they navigate the challenges ahead,” the charity continued. “Thank you, Taylor, for standing with us in the movement to end hunger and for helping communities in need,” Feeding America said in a parting note to the celebrity.
Swift, 34, made the kind donation covertly and without sharing it on social media. The Grammy winner, whose net worth of $1.6 billion reportedly made her the richest female musician in the world, is expected to continue her Eras Tour in Southern Florida the following week.
They are set to be her first concerts back on her sold-out tour since going on hiatus following a long stint in Europe. Her last set of shows took place in London in August.
“This contribution will help communities rebuild and recover, [provide] essential food, clean water and supplies to people affected by these devastating storms,” Feeding America said of Swift’s donation.
The nonprofit said donations like Swift’s can “make a real impact in supporting families as they navigate the challenges ahead.”
As of right now, there has been no word regarding the cancellation of the Miami performances, which are slated to take place at Hard Rock Stadium from October 18 to 20. Remarks were not returned by her representative. Swift is very fond of Florida; in fact, the song “Florida!!!” from her album “The Tortured Poets Department” is a tribute to the state. She used to live there as well.
Hurricane Milton is expected to have disastrous impacts on communities like Tampa and Sarasota on the state’s western coast. As of Wednesday afternoon, the storm was rated as a Category 4, with sustained winds of about 130 mph. Over 230 individuals have already lost their lives and significant damage as a result of Hurricane Helene.
Hurricane Milton is set to make landfall Wednesday on the West coast of Florida.
Swift is set to play shows in Miami starting Oct. 18 as she resumes her Eras Tour.
If the concerts are postponed because of the bad weather, such information has not yet been released.
Nonetheless, Swift’s generosity is not surprising. She gave $100,000 to a family that lost their mother in the shooting that occurred earlier this year during the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl parade, which is led by her boyfriend Travis Kelce. Following storms that affected Tennessee in December 2023, the “Shake It Off” singer also made a $1 million donation to aid victims of natural disasters.
