In a shocking revelation from journalist Omid Scobie’s new book, Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival, Meghan Markle has accused two members of the royal household of making racist remarks. According to Page Six, Markle wrote private letters to King Charles III, naming those involved in these discussions.
This revelation comes after Markle first expressed concerns about her son Archie’s skin color during her 2021 tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey. She stated, “All around this same time—there are conversations about, ‘He won’t be given security, he’s not going to be given a title,’ and also concerns about how dark his skin might be when he’s born.”
While Prince Harry refrained from elaborating on the issue during the interview, the comments sent shockwaves through the media. Prince William subsequently defended the family, asserting that they were “very much not a racist family.”
Markle’s correspondence with King Charles III in April regarding the royal family’s alleged “unconscious bias” confirmed that discussions about Archie’s skin color had indeed occurred within the royal household.
The identities of the individuals involved remain unknown, although Scobie reveals that a second party was implicated in the racist remarks. It’s unclear whether this person is a royal family member or a staff member, but they are confirmed to be part of the royal household. Scobie claims to know their identities but cannot disclose them due to UK laws.
Since the Oprah interview, Prince Harry has appeared to soften his stance on the notion of racism within his family. In a January interview with ITV, he distinguished between racism and unconscious bias, stating, “Once it’s been acknowledged… that you have unconscious bias, you have an opportunity to learn and grow from that.”
The release of Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival on Tuesday is expected to provide further insights into these allegations, marking a significant chapter in the ongoing saga surrounding Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s exit from royal life and their experiences within the institution.
