A towering nude statue depicting former President Donald Trump appeared in central Phoenix on Thursday.

The mysterious traveling figure first surfaced in Las Vegas earlier this week. It is titled “Crooked and Obscene,” according to a news release from the people taking credit for its creation.

“The title reflects the controversial aspects attributed to both the figure represented and the nature of the installation itself,” the release reads. “By unveiling a nude marionette of Donald Trump in an unexpected setting, the project aims to provoke thought and encourage open conversation about the complexities of political power and leadership.”

It was unclear who exactly was behind the project.

Individuals with the project refused to identify themselves on Thursday near the exhibit location off Washington Street and 24th Street. The area immediately surrounding it was private property and not open to the public.

Representatives of businesses in the area, which include a cannabis dispensary, said they had nothing to do with the statue.

According to the release, the statue was made of foam and rebar, weighing close to 6,000 pounds. Some people stopped by to take photos of the more than 40-foot-tall installation.

It’s unclear when the statue will be moved next. The release indicated this was the piece’s “second stop.” Both Nevada and Arizona are considered battleground states in the general election Nov. 5.

When in Las Vegas, the statue received sharp criticism from Nevada’s Republican party.

“The Nevada Republican Party strongly condemns the deplorable statue of President Donald J. Trump recently hung from a crane along Interstate 15,” a statement shared on X reads. “While families drive through Las Vegas, they are forced to view this offensive marionette, designed intentionally for shock value rather than meaning full dialogue.”
