Since Meghan Markle joined the British Royal Family by marrying Prince Harry, Queen Elizabeth II took a special interest in her new granddaughter-in-law. In the book Our King: Charles III The Man and the Monarch Revealed by Robert Jobson, it is revealed that the Queen privately expressed her happiness for Harry, acknowledging Meghan’s initial confusion about royal life. She even suggested that Meghan seek guidance from Sophie, now the Duchess of Edinburgh. However, Meghan’s unexpected and blunt response left many surprised: “I have Harry.”
Duchess Sophie, often referred to as the “secret weapon” of the Royal Family, consistently excels in her duties with confidence and grace. Since the start of the month, she has participated in 37 events and is widely regarded as a reliable figure within the monarchy. In his book Elizabeth: An Intimate Portrait, author Gyles Brandreth highlights how Queen Elizabeth II recognized the challenges Meghan Markle might face when entering royal life. The Queen suggested that Sophie, her daughter-in-law with years of royal experience, would be the perfect advisor for Meghan. However, Meghan made it clear that she felt she didn’t need assistance, stating, “I have Harry.”
Before becoming a member of the Royal Family, Sophie WesđâŻđ came from a middle-class family and founded her own PR company. That’s why many people have compared Sophie to Meghan Markle because both had to go through a big change when entering the royal family. Sophie and Prince Edward’s love story began in 1987 when she was a press officer at Capital Radio, then the two reunited in 1993. After 6 years of dating, Prince Edward proposed to Sophie in December 1998 and the wedding was held in June 1999 at St George’s Chapel.
Despite her lack of royal background, Sophie has become one of the most beloved members of the British Royal Family and is even rumoured to be Queen Elizabeth II’s favourite daughter-in-law. Sophie and Edward currently live with their two children in Bagshot Park in Surrey. Their eldest daughter, Lady Louise Windsor, is currently studying English Literature at the University of St Andrews.
Sophie has a close relationship with Harry and Meghan, The Times reported. She was also the first member of the Royal Family to visit Harry and Meghan after Archie was born in 2019. In an interview with The Sunday Times, Sophie compared her experience with Meghan Markle when she joined the Royal Family. She shared:Â “Remember, I had five years to adapt to royal life. And for six months of engagement, I even stayed at Buckingham Palace. It’s not like you necessarily know how things will turn out.”
