Recently, a claim emerged online that pop icon Taylor Swift had to cancel her remaining US and Canada legs of the ongoing Eras Tour in the wake of her backlash for endorsing Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris. The rumor first arose on September 14, 2024, on the Facebook page of SpaceX Fanclub.

The post, which earned over 26,000 reactions, 10,400 comments, and 4,200 shares at the time of writing, comprised a collage of Harris and Swift with the text inside it reading:

“Taylor Swift Cancels Eras Tour Dates After Endorsement Backlash: ‘Only 2,300 Tickets Sold.’”

However, the now-viral claim has turned out to be fake, as evident from the post’s caption, which contained the word “satire” alongside the sentence aforementioned. SpaceX Fanclub’s Facebook bio itself reads, “We post SATIRE, nothing on this page is real.”

Notably, Taylor Swift endorsed Kamala Harris via Instagram on September 10, following the Harris-Trump ABC presidential debate. In it, she shared she would be voting for Kamala Harris and her running mate Tim Walz for the upcoming election, adding that she “made my choice” after “doing my research.”

Taylor Swift has not canceled her Eras Tour

Over the weekend, a rumor arose on Facebook alleging that Taylor Swift’s recent and much-anticipated endorsement of Kamala Harris for the upcoming presidential election earned her criticism and compelled her to cancel the rest of her Eras Tour. However, it was proven false as the post created by SpaceX Fanclub had the words “Rated Satire,” alongside a disclaimer reading, “Nothing on this page is real.” Besides, it also had the words parody/ satirical content written on its page description.

Meanwhile, the SpaceX Fanclub Facebook post also had a source link inserted in its comment section, which directed to an article on the Esspots website, dated September 14, 2024. It had the title, “Taylor Swift Cancels Eras Tour Dates After Endorsement Backlash: ‘Only 2,300 Tickets Sold.’”

“In a turn of events that no one—especially Taylor Swift—saw coming, the pop sensation has been forced to cancel several upcoming dates of her highly anticipated Eras Tour after a shocking backlash following her public endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris,” the article began.

It further continued by reading:

“The once-sold-out stadiums have quickly turned into ghost towns, with Swift managing to sell a mere 2,300 tickets for the latest leg of the tour, a far cry from the record-breaking crowds she had been pulling in earlier.”

The article claimed that Taylor Swift was unable to “fully anticipate” the impact of her endorsement of Kamala Harris and hence had to pay a “heavy price tag,” with no more demands for Eras Tour on the ticket sales website Ticketmaster. Additionally, it alleged that the hashtag #ByeByeTaylor has been trending on X.

As per the Esspots article, “reports of ticket refunds started pouring in” with only “2,300 tickets” sold so far, “a devastatingly low number for someone who once sold out arenas in mere minutes.”

“Even Swift’s most dedicated ‘Swifties’ seem torn. Longtime fan Jessica Roberts, who has attended every tour since Fearless, explained her disappointment. ‘I love Taylor, but I just don’t know if I can support her anymore. She should stick to music and stay out of politics,’” it further claimed.

The article went on to claim that in the wake of the “dwindling ticket sales” Taylor Swift and her team “made the tough decision to cancel several future Eras Tour dates” and even released a statement.

“In a statement released on her website, Swift explained the decision: ‘It’s heartbreaking to have to cancel these shows, but I believe it’s the best decision for everyone. I’ve always prided myself on bringing people together through music, but right now, it seems like the best way to do that is to take a step back,’” it reported.

Not only that but the Esspots article added that the Lover singer herself issued a public statement addressing her fans and allegedly saying, “I know that right now things are tough, but I believe in the power of music to heal and bring people together. I’m not going anywhere, and I’ll see you soon.”

However, all the aforementioned claims have turned out to be false. Neither did Taylor Swift cancel the remaining Eras Tour, nor did her fanbase react negatively to her Kamala Harris endorsement. Besides, the tickets had already and entirely sold out last year even before the Eras Tour kickstarted.

Claims of refunds and boycott calls for the pop star have also turned out to be fake. Also, no statement was released by her or her team regarding Eras Tour tickets.

Likewise, the article’s claim that Taylor Swift in her Kamala Harris endorsement wrote, “She’s a role model for women everywhere, and I know she’s the perfect choice for America’s future,” has also been fabricated. The multiple-time Grammy winner did not use the same quote in her viral September 10 Instagram post.

“I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos,” Swift wrote instead.

Thus, it can be concluded that the whole Esspots article, written by popular parody/ satirical writer Alex Robin, is fake, unfounded, and fabricated, as evident from the disclaimer given at the end of it, reading, “NOTE: This is satire, not true.”

The website’s “About Us” section also described Esspots as a “one-stop destination for satirical news and commentary” labeling its content fake, absurd, with a pinch of “humor,” meant to trigger “laughter.”

Notably, this is not the first rumor that emerged in the wake of Taylor Swift’s endorsement of the current Vice President for November’s election. Last week, SpaceX Fanclub also made similar claims, one alleging that Taylor Swift lost “brand deals worth $125 million” as well as “more than 100 million followers on Instagram” after her Kamala Harris endorsement. However, both turned out to be fake for the similar reasons cited above.

Taylor Swift is set to perform in Miami, New Orleans, and Indianapolis as part of her US leg of the Eras Tour between October 18 to November 3, before moving on to Canada, where she will have multiple shows in Toronto and Vancouver, before wrapping it up on December 8.
