Blake Lively’s ongoing It Ends With Us drama did not stop her best friend, Taylor Swift, from throwing her an epic birthday celebration — much to some fans’ disappointment.
On Saturday, August 24, the singer hosted a birthday party for the 37-year-old Gossip Girl alum at her $17 million dollar home in Watch Hill, Rhode Island. Swift’s summer house was filled with A-listers celebrating Lively’s birthday, including the actress’ husband, Ryan Reynolds, as well as Swift’s boyfriend Travis Kelce. Also in attendance were Travis’ brother, Jason Kelce, and his wife, Kylie Kelce, Patrick Mahomes and Brittany Mahomes, as well as Bradley Cooper.
The celebration proved to be a kid-friendly event as many of the guests brought their little ones, including Lively, who shares four kids with Reynolds: James, 9, Inez, 7, Betty, 4, and Olin, 1. Cooper’s 7-year-old daughter Lea de Seine, who he shares with model Irina Shayk, was also pictured at the event.
Despite the celebratory occasion, fans had mixed reactions to Swift hosting Lively’s birthday party as unflattering interviews of Lively continue to resurface amid her heavily criticized promo run of It Ends With Us.
One user took to X (formerly known as Twitter) writing, “Not the PR meeting at Taylor’s Rhode Island home️,” with skull emojis. The user added, “I think I said 2 weeks ago that Blake would be in a [VIP] box with Taylor to fix this whole It Ends With Us PR mess … Looks like they couldn’t wait until the [NFL] season started.”
Additionally, fans went off in the comment section of TMZ’s coverage of the party. One person wrote, “So now [Blake is] using TS to save her image instead of her husband who’s also soon to be cancelled. Ok.”
Another individual commented, “As a Taylor fan, I feel disappointed.”
Other fans, however, recognized the pair’s long-standing friendship and admired Swift for supporting Lively.
“Taylor is their kids godmother, do you think she is going to just drop them all? They are family at this point,” one individual wrote.
Another person commented “Good for them! Leave them alone!!”
Over the past month, Lively has been heavily criticized for promoting her new haircare line, Blake Brown, during the promo run for a film that is centered around domestic violence.
She is also facing backlash for comments she made in two resurfaced interviews. In one 2016 interview, after reporter Kjersti Flaa congratulated the actress on her 𝚋𝚊𝚋𝚢 bump, Lively responded by saying, “Congrats on your little bump,” despite Flaa not being pregnant. In a separate interview from 2014, Lively claimed that women “lie” about pregnancy cravings, which angered many fans.
