Actor Karl Urban may return as Judge Dredd in the TV series version called “Judge Dredd: Mega-City One”.
Released in 2012, Dredd directed by Pete Travi, adapted from the comic book series of the same name created by John Wagner, and starring Karl Urban in the lead role of Judge Dredd. The film in general and Karl Urban’s performance in particular were highly appreciated by many critics and audiences.
Due to the low box office, plans for a Judge Dredd trilogy were scrapped. Many fans felt that a new TV series would be more than enough time to tell the story of Dredd. Fans have since petitioned Netflix and Amazon Prime to make a Judge Dredd series, but both streaming services have declined. Earlier this year, a subsidiary of IM Global confirmed that they would be reviving Judge Dredd with a TV series called Judge Dredd: Mega-City One.
In a recent interview with Screenrant about his intention to return to the role of Judge Dredd in the TV Series, Karl Urban shared: “If a character has a very important role, and is a pillar in the overall plot, then I might be very interested in reprising that role.”
Currently, what we know about the upcoming TV Series is that it will be produced by Mark Stern, Stuart Ford, Jason Kingsley, Chris Kingsley, Brian Jenkins, in which Stuart Ford, Jason Kingsley, and Chris Kingsley are the names responsible for producing the 2012 film version. And actor Karl Urban will most likely return as Judge Dredd.
Since his role as Dredd in the 2012 film, Karl Urban has been pushing for a sequel and bringing Dredd to the small screen. However, the actor’s busy schedule in the near future, with preparations for the release of the blockbuster Thor: Ragnarok and the sequel to Star Trek, has somewhat affected the release schedule of Judge Dredd: Mega-City One.
