Ryan Reynolds has answered the claim that his and Blake Lively’s fourth child’s name is hidden in Taylor Swift’s new album, The Tortured Poets Department, and the singer mentions 35 potential names throughout the 31 tracks
Ryan Reynolds says Taylor Swift has not hidden fourth child’s name in album.
Ryan Reynolds has debunked speculation that his and Blake Lively’s youngest daughter’s name is hidden within Taylor Swift’s latest album, eliminating 35 potential names. The close bond between Taylor Swift and celebrity power couple Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds is well-known, particularly her relationship with their kids, who view the singer as an ‘aunt’.
Swift famously featured the voice of James, the then two-year-old daughter of Blake and Ryan, at the start of her 2017 hit “Gorgeous”. As People revealed, the sweet sound bite came about after Swift previewed her unreleased track to Lively and Reynolds. After listening, James became infatuated with the word “gorgeous”, resulting in Swift recording her pronunciation to introduce the song.
When Taylor performed “Gorgeous” live during her Reputation tour, Blake and Ryan were so ecstatic they were captured on film literally jumping for joy while their daughter’s voice filled a stadium packed with 60,000 people.
Taylor and Blake are firm friends with Ryan describing the singer as like ‘family’
During her visit to Good Morning America, Blake confessed to their over-enthusiastic reaction: “We were very embarrassing. That was the true, unfiltered version of our terrible stage parent pride.” In 2020, notoriously reserved Blake and Ryan permitted Swift to publicly announce the name of their third daughter via her album Folklore.
In the tune “Betty,” Swift mentions three characters engaged in a disastrous high school love affair: James, Inez, and Betty. Eagle-eared fans didn’t miss a beat, piecing together that James and Inez are the names of Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds’ eldest children. The buzz about their third child’s name Betty surged after Taylor Swift’s album “Folklore” dropped.
Swift later spilled the beans on a country radio station, revealing that the names in her song were indeed a nod to her friends’ kids. Ryan Reynolds expressed his awe on SiriusXM, saying, “I mean, what an honor. We thought it was pretty damn amazing. We still do. You know, I still walk down the street and shake my head, thinking, I can’t believe that happened.”

He addressed privacy concerns regarding the name-drop by stating, “The names are the names of our kids, but we trust her implicitly. She’s very sensitive to any of that stuff. And obviously, the song has nothing to do with our kids other than our kids’ names.” Reynolds also shared that he and Blake had a surprise up their sleeve for their daughters, keeping it under wraps that Taylor had used their names until they heard the song.
In February 2023, the couple announced the arrival of their fourth bundle of joy, yet details like the 𝚋𝚊𝚋𝚢’s gender or name remain a mystery. So, it’s no surprise that fans were on high alert for any hints when Taylor dropped her latest album, The Tortured Poets Department, last month, especially since the arrival of her first child. With a whopping 31 tracks, the album is riddled with 35 potential 𝚋𝚊𝚋𝚢 names, including four in just one song title, “Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus”.
But Ryan Reynolds put all the speculation to rest during his recent stint on the Today show, confirming that none of the songs spill the beans on his and Blake Lively’s fourth child’s name. He quipped about their naming process: “We always wait for Taylor to tell us what the child’s name is, and I’ll say this: We’re still waiting.”
