The Boys is one of the world’s most popular superhero shows, and its fourth season started on June 13, 2024, with the first three episodes. The season was certified fresh and had strong ratings, and Amazon stated that viewership increased.

Despite this, some fans were reviewing the season for its heightened political undertone, indicating that the writers have opted to go all out when it comes to political humor. One facet of that parody is a new character named Firecracker, a new supervillain who will play a significant role this season.

Not that long ago, we reported on who influenced the character, as showrunner Eric Kripke confirmed which US politician influenced Firecracker. Now, we also know what the actress, Valorie Curry, thinks about the influence behind her character, and it turns out that there is some The Boys-level irony behind that story.

In short, we reported that Eric Kripke confirmed that Republican politician Marjorie Taylor Greene was the inspiration behind Firecracker. Greene is a far-right politician and conspiracy theorist, a member of the Republican Party, and a strong supporter of Donald Trump. She has promoted horrible antisemitic and white supremacist views, as well as ludicrous conspiracy theories, including the white genocide conspiracy theory, QAnon, Pizzagate, the government’s involvement in mass shootings in the United States, implicating the Clinton family, and that the attacks of 9/11 were a hoax.

This satire makes sense within The Boys, but when Valorie Curry was approached to portray the character, the irony really kicked in. Namely, as of several years ago, Curry identifies herself as queer, so the fact that she – of all people – was asked to portray an overzealous anti-queer character is the pinnacle of irony, but that is exactly what you’d expect from The Boys. And while you might think that Curry would reject such a role, she jumped right in, seeing an opportunity to elevate the satire to a completely new level:

“It sounds so gross to say, but I really connected with her right off the bat. [I am happy to play somebody she finds personally abhorrent, who’s] so vocally anti-trans and homophobic, because it should be somebody from the community who’s getting to make a clown out of her. So there isn’t any ambiguity. The show satirizes so much of what’s happening culturally, whether it’s #MeToo or the Republican Party.”

She did say, though, that she found some of the conspiracy theories her character supports a bit too ludicrous, a bit too far-fetched, but was surprised when Kripke would actually tell her: “That’s actually a direct quote [from a politician].”

As you can see, Curry is a true sport here and we have no doubt that her appearance as Firecracker will be wholly memorable, so we can only praise her approach, as well as the series’ boldness in general.
