Jason Aldean and his wife, Brittany, are some of the most outspoken voices in country music when it comes to politics. That was clear last week when Jason and Brittany were spotted sitting beside former President Donald Trump at the Republican National Convention, and Trump even gave the couple a shoutout during his speech accepting the GOP nomination for president:
“And Jason, the biggest star in country music. Jason, thank you for being here. Jason thank you very much. Jason Aldean, he’s good.
I like his wife even better by the way. She’s here.”
But according to the Aldeans, they’re far from alone in country music their support for the former president – they’re just one of the few who are willing to talk about it publicly.
During an appearance on the Try That In A Small Town podcast (named, of course, after Jason’s #1 song and hosted by the song’s co-writers), Jason & Brittany spoke about their political views, and said that they’re shared by a majority of country artists.
According to Brittany:
“No one really speaks. Even though they feel it behind the scenes, no one says anything…on the conservative side, in the country music world in particular…
Country music, the conservatives, which is a majority of people, don’t say anything.”
And she also spoke on how Jason’s fellow artists feel about the couple being so outspoken about their political beliefs:
“It’s so funny when we go to an event or an awards show or whatever, when we’re invited, it’s funny the people that come up to you and they’re patting you on your back like, ‘Man, we love what y’all are doing, keep it up, wish we could.’
It’s like, ‘You can, but you don’t.’”
But Jason adds that he understands why others don’t want to jump into politics, and he’s not trying to influence any of his fellow artists with his own political views:
“We don’t expect people to like – like, the way we speak and the things we think, if we voice our opinion on something, it’s our opinion. I don’t expect anybody to jump on the bandwagon.”
During the interview, Brittany was also asked about her feud with Maren Morris, where she criticized the pop singer for claiming to be “pro-woman” while attacking Brittany and her business because of her political views:
“She’s got a group of friends here in Nashville that they just, have it out for me for whatever reason. To be so pro-woman and all the bullshit – you’re not, because I’ve never said a word to you and you come for me why? Because I’m an easy target because I’m a wife, and I don’t have a stage as a platform, but I have social media?
For some reason I offend them.”
Brittany then explained her post that drew the ire of Maren, while reiterating that she remains thankful that her parents didn’t try to convince her to change her gender just because she was a tomboy as a child:
“I just said that. Thank the Lord my parents allowed me to go through my tomboy phase without changing my gender, because it’s so common these days.
And y’all, it was World War III at that point…
She started to make fun of my business, which at the time was hair extensions. But to me it’s like, once again, going back to the feminist movement, aren’t you supposed to be all peace, love and all inclusivity and all the things? Why are you coming for me like that about my business?
I don’t need to work. I choose to work. Let’s do that too. I am a working woman who doesn’t have to, who wants to provide for my children and my family, and that should be something to be proud of, not put down.”
Brittany also points out that she never went after Maren personally (although she did call her Karen Morris), but it’s pretty clear she’s not a fan of the pop singer OR her political views.
