Eric Kripke, the creator of The Boys, talks how the season 4 finale will tie into Gen V season 2.
After only appearing briefly in season 4, Cate Dunlap (Maddie Phillips) and Sam Riordan (Asa Germann) make a significant appearance in the last minutes of the Boys season 4 finale. They’re an important element of the strategy to divide the titular group, with Cate apparently enlisting Frenchie (Tomer Capone) while Sam easily holds Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) back.
Kripke discussed how Gen V season 2 will weave into The Boys’ world in a bonus film posted by Prime film in conjunction with the recent season finale. The creator and showrunner revealed that the future episodes of Gen V, which are now in production, will provide an early glimpse into a new universe. Read the complete quote below:
“In terms of the whole VCU universe, Gen V will be the first glimpse into the new world that was created at the end of season 4. And so, they’re actually gonna get there even before we will. So, you’ll really get a first sense of what it’s like. And then, that will continue into season 5.”
Gen V Season 2 Could Feature Regular Appearances From The Boys Cast
The Connection Between The Two Shows Could Become Closer
The plot of Gen V season 2 is currently unknown. However, based on how The Boys season 4 ends, with Cate catching Frenchie and Sam appearing to do the same with Kimiko, it stands to reason that those two characters could make the transition to Gen V. While the college-set spinoff has its own cliffhanger to resolve, it will be a priority to prepare for The Boys’ fifth and final season.
Before the fifth and final season of The Boys, Sam or Cate may undergo dramatic changes. They could either embark on a redemption path, or at least one of them will die fighting for Homelander’s side. Gen V season 2 becomes increasingly important as a bridge to fresh episodes of The Boys. Gen V is expected to have an impact on the flagship show and provide insight into Frenchie and Kimiko’s future plans.
It’ll be fascinating to see how this affects the remaining Generation V characters. Sam and Cate formed personal ties with all of them, and the conclusion found the heroes locked in what appeared to be a secret medical facility. It adds up to a lot of curiosity for the spinoff, which will have to balance multiple stories in its second installment. It’s unclear if the series will continue after The Boys, although future episodes may provide clues.
