The diva is apparently planning to ‘resume filming for her biopic in the next 12 months’, following its cancellation last year.
The Queen of Pop spent years developing the film, which was first revealed in 2020, but she put it on hold after announcing her big Celebration Tour.
Julia, an award-winning actress, was first associated to the project in 2022 following a tough 11-hour audition.
According to a source, Julia is still the lead actress and the two have been in contact for a year to discuss ideas. They are determined to create some magic.
They added: ‘A series of secret meetings with Universal Pictures are being planned to finalise the idea.
‘There is a lot of work to be done, including locking down the rest of the actors, scheduling shoots, and finishing the script, but the hope is that they will be able to begin filming within the next year.’
According to the source, Madonna thought that films like Freddie Mercury’s Bohemian Rhapsody and Elton John’s Rocketman prepared the way for her film, but she wanted to make it unique and dramatic.
MailOnline contacted Madonna’s representative for a reaction.

The ‘Queen Of Pop’ spent years percolating the film, which was originally announced in 2020 with award-winning actress Julia, 30, becoming affiliated to the production in 2022 (seen in January). When the biopic was first revealed in 2020, the singer stated in a statement, ‘I want to reflect the fantastic trip that life has taken me on as an artist, musician, dancer — a human being, trying to make her place in this world.’
‘Music will always be the focal point of this picture. Music and art have kept me alive. There are so many unknown and inspiring stories, and who better to tell them than me,” she said.
‘It’s critical to communicate the roller coaster trip of my life through my voice and vision,’ she added.
Universal Pictures announced the decision to shelve the picture in January 2023, following the Queen of Pop’s announcement of a 40th anniversary world tour.
The US Sun said that it was placed on stop due to her insistence on having ‘near-total’ control of the process, combined with her weird ‘circus antics’ on social media.
