Angel Reese Was Quadruple-Teamed by the New York Liberty to Break Her Double-Double Streak

Angel Reese‘s remarkable streak of 15 consecutive games with a double-double is over at 15 thanks to a wildly concerted effort by the New York Liberty.

Reese, a superstar rookie, entered the game already having held the WNBA record for consecutive double-doubles. But some of those numbers appear to have come in dubious fashion.

On Saturday, Reese again faced a late-game scenario with her streak on the line. But this time, the league-leading Liberty refused to allow the streak to continue.

Reese needed two points late in the game against New York to extend her streak. She and her Chicago teammates trailed the Liberty 81-67 with just 24 seconds remaining.

Chicago tried to force the ball to Reese so that she could have an opportunity to extend her streak. But New York countered by sending not one, not two, not three, but four defenders in her direction.

Reese eventually passed out of the post and the Sky did not get a shot off, bringing the streak to a close.

She finished the game with eight points on just 3-of-13 shooting to go along with 16 rebounds.

“D— NY Liberty did not let Angel get that double double they worked hard in those final seconds to stop it,” one fan tweeted.

Streak aside, Reese is having a remarkable rookie season. She’s challenging fellow superstar Caitlin Clark for the WNBA rookie of the year award, with some even putting her ahead in the race.

“So you gonna try to put me in a controversy, right,” South Carolina coach Dawn Staley said about the battle between the two. “They both are having great years. Don’t get me wrong. If I had to pick a rookie of the year at this time, it’s Angel. Not a doubt.

“What she’s been able to do with the double-doubles. But listen, the season is halfway through and Caitlin is coming … I’ll say this, whatever team makes the playoffs, that’s our rookie of the year.”
