Boxing Shockwave: Anthony Joshua vs. Daniel Dubois Expected to Break Tyson Fury’s Historic Record, Says Frank Warren!

Frank Warren believes Anthony Joshua against Daniel Dubois will break the British boxing attendance record.

The legendary Wembley Stadium’s 90,000-seat capacity had to be raised to a record-breaking 94,000 for Tyson Fury’s all-British fight against Dillian Whyte last year.

Joshua and Dubois will square off at Wembley Stadium on September 21.

But the Queensberry Promotions chief expects that Joshua and Dubois’ IBF heavyweight title fight on September 21 will surpass that figure.

“Oh, it’s massive,” he told talkSPORT on Tuesday. “I mean, we will be applying to increase the capacity like we did last time when Tyson Fury fought against Dillian Whyte.

“And I think we’ve got it, I think we will probably break that record. So it’s really looking good.”

Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, recently suggested that Joshua vs Dubois could sell 100,000 tickets at the home of English football.

In 2017, 90,000 people saw AJ’s unification fight with Wladimir Klitschko, and 80,000 showed up a year later for his fight with Alexander Povetkin.

Although Dubois does not have the same name value as Klitschko, domestic fights generally perform well in terms of gate receipts, so such a feat is not impossible.

Fury and Whyte hold the Wembley Stadium boxing attendance record with 94,000.

Especially, when it comes to a fight where either man can knock the other out.

“A lot of people are making AJ a favourite, and they’re saying AJ is a big puncher and so forth and I hope he comes out and comes to fight because if he lets those big punches go I know that will leave him exposed,” Warren added.

“If Daniel clips him, it will knock him out. I think Daniel is the bigger puncher.

“Daniel, myself and Don [Charles] (Dubois’ trainer) have spoken about this a fair bit and we think it’s a battle of the jabs and I think whoever is throwing those jabs and feeling comfortable will set up the big shots and let them go.

“But I genuinely think that Daniel can win this, he’s a young man, he’s fought better opposition in his last three fights than AJ has.

“And by the way, AJ has looked good in his last few fights but not against as good opposition as what Daniel has been in with.

“Daniel’s dealt with them and he’s stopped them and come through a couple of moments in the fights where he was getting caught.

“Certainly in the early stage of the Hrgovic fight but he did a job on him.”

Dubois was branded a ‘quitter’ by several members of the boxing fraternity after seeing out ten counts against Joe Joyce and Oleksandr Usyk.

However, two brave victories over Jarrell Miller and Filip Hrgovic in his previous two fights have helped to improve his public view.

The newly crowned world champion now has the chance to silence the skeptics once and for all by defeating Joshua this summer and establishing himself as a top-two heavyweight in the UK.
