The entertainer got a Tony designation for her depiction of the personality of Broadway, yet at the same time needed to go through an extensive tryout process with chief Rush Bazawule.

During the interview, Oprah revealed she was around for much of the filming but wanted to make sure she was around when Danielle had to perform in one of the films most emotional scenes.

‘I made it my business to be there the day of the “you told Harpo to beat me scene” because that has been such a moment and it felt, literally, like passing the baton,’ she explained.

At the Empire State Building Oprah and Danielle were joined by the director along with stars Taraji P Henson, who stars as Shug Avery and Fantasia Barrino, who took over the role on Broadway from April 2007 until January 2008.
