Game-Changer: The Boys Season 4 Reveals the Undeniable Importance of This Returning Character.

Season 4 of The Boys reintroduced a big character from previous seasons, reminding me of his importance to the series.

Over the course of four seasons, The Boys has introduced a diverse cast of individuals, each with a typically devastating method of elimination from the game. Only a few characters from The Boys’ cast have left the show in a way that allows them to easily return, heightening the stakes of their conflicts.

One significant person in the show’s internal power struggles is still alive, but has been gone since season 4. Although he may have lost some of his power and influence from the show’s earlier seasons, he still offers a unique perspective and potential role in The Boys, particularly as the plot nears its conclusion. Their surprise entrance in episode 5 of season 4 demonstrates how nicely this character fits into the program and why they should be more present in the final season of The Boys.

Stan Edgar’s Return Shows How Much The Boys Has Missed Him

The Boys Has Been Missing Stan Edgar For Too Long

Stan Edgar’s return in “Beware The Jabberwock, My Son” highlights how much Edgar’s absence has been quietly impacting the show. Introduced in season 1, Stan Edgar was the CEO of Vought International. Despite being a regular human in a world where people like Homelander can tear someone apart with his bare hands, Edgar’s authority and ambitions make him one of the overarching villains of the show. I loved how it played into the show’s themes about the dangers of corporate powerhouses in modern society, and gave Homelander someone he couldn’t overcome through intimidation or superpowers.

Edgar was an excellent overarching nemesis who ties into the show’s themes. It also amplified the impact of his arrest in season 3, since it created a power vacuum that continues to affect The Boys. His reintroduction in season 4 emphasizes his importance to the series and recasts him as a wildcard. He can cooperate with the Boys in the near run and is personally invested in the battle due to his relationship with Victoria. However, I know as well as the Boys that he’s probably playing his own game the entire time, which reinforces why he’s such a strong antagonist.

Giancarlo Esposito Has Been Hugely In-Demand Since His Breaking Bad Breakout

Giancarlo Esposito Has Been Overdue For A Return On The Boys

The way Giancarlo Esposito portrays Edgar is one of my favorite aspects of the character. Esposito adds a lovely yet detached quality to the character that does not undermine the tiny genuine moments of humanity that he displays. It’s an excellent performance by an actor who has become increasingly popular since his breakout appearance in Breaking Bad. Despite starring in a number of lesser roles over the years, I was blown away by his portrayal as the strangely calm and collected drug lord Gus in the iconic AMC crime drama.

Since then, Esposito has emerged as one of Hollywood’s most versatile and reliable character actors. He has made memorable appearances in a number of different shows and films, including Disney’s Star Wars content on the Disney+ streaming service. It seems sense that The Boys wouldn’t feature him all the time, making his appearances on the show more memorable. Still, I was saddened when, in season 3, the character was seemingly written off the show by being imprisoned. While I am glad to see him return in season 4, there is always room for more.

Stan Edgar Needs To Play A Bigger Role In The Boys Season 5 & The Show’s Ending

Stan Edgar Needs To Factor Into The Boys‘ Ending

With The Boys set to finish with the fifth season, Stan Edgar must feature into the show’s final stretch. Given what happened in “Beware the Jabberwock, My Son,” the series is already positioning him as a potential wild card. Neuman’s decision to blow up the driver who was transporting him back to prison may have enabled Edgar to become a secret weapon in Neuman’s pocket. His expertise with Vought makes him one of the show’s most powerfully knowledgeable characters, with potential resources that might make or ruin Homelander’s future plans.

It would be a tragedy if this was the last time we saw Edgar, especially since the program is about to end. He is one of the main targets of The Boys’ satirical look at corporate malfeasance and the perils that might be unleashed in the pursuit of more profits. Bringing back Edgar for season 5 might bring such themes back to the forefront, directly contrasted with Homelander’s rasher, brutal attitude to power. Stan Edgar is an overlooked part of The Boys, and his season 4 debut only makes me want more.
