Music video director Bardia Zeinali praises Barry Keoghan.
The creator of Sabrina Carpenter’s song video, Please Please Please, shared his experience working with the singer’s boyfriend.
The video, inspired by Sharon Stone’s Basic Instincts, was filmed at a decommissioned jail on Staten Island.
Bardia Zeinali, the creative mind behind Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Please Please Please’ music video, shared her experience working with her boyfriend, Barry Keoghan.
Barry insisted on rehearsing his fight scene the day before so that he could perform it in one take on the big day.
According to Bardia, he was mindful that it was Sabrina’s video and day, and he didn’t want to interfere with the shot or take up too much time.
Barry was also enthusiastic about changing up his clothes, but the plan was to continue with his typical style.
‘He was incredibly cognizant that it’s Sabrina’s video, it’s Sabrina’s day, and he didn’t want to be the one who’s holding up a shot or using too much time or space,’ the director remembered.
The song video depicted the real-life couple meeting as Sabrina sung to the 31-year-old through the jail’s glass during visitor hours before walking hand in hand into a pizza parlor.
The notion was a crazy love story with Sabrina’s inherent flirtatious flair, which comes naturally to the Feather artist.
‘She has a bit of that wink always,’ the director shared. ‘She’s really funny herself. So a lot of [the script] just wrote itself in a really natural and organic way. Even with my editor, when we were working, he was like, “I love the dolly shot where we pan from her to Barry.” She’s singing to the camera, and we land on him, and he was like, “I love it because the comedy is so right.”‘
Sabrina quipped: ‘I know you’re craving some fresh air, but the ceiling fan is so nice,’ before the camera shows Barry aiming a gun at a bank teller.
The comedic scene perfectly syncs with the songstress’s lyrics, becoming an instant online meme.
‘I always knew the first chorus was the first time I wanted to break the fourth wall, have her performing direct into camera,’ Bardia commented. ‘[That’s when] you first kind of hear what she’s saying, which is just basically like pleading to this person to stop their chaotic ways. I knew that I wanted to have that shift there because there’s a shift in the music, the musicality.’
The chorus shows Sabrina standing in the doorway, fighting a group of men in slow motion.
Fans went to YouTube’s comments section to express their delight about seeing Sabrina’s real-life boyfriend in the film.
One person remarked, “Sabrina hard-launching Barry while warning him not to f*** this up.” Mood,’ while another said, “The vocals, the lyrics, the outfits, the hair, the makeup, the BOYFRIEND IN THE VIDEO????” Everything about this is simply iconic.’

Rounding out the beautiful words, one fan added, ‘Sabrina performing a song about her fiancé and having him star in the music is very Stevie Nicks’ core, and I love it.’
Although Barry has yet to fight anyone for his leading lady in real life, the couple has taken the internet by storm since their first connection in December.
The Espresso singer remained secretive about her relationship status.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, she said, “How do I skirt around this question?” when asked if she refers to him as her boyfriend.
‘The [dating] pool is the pool, and when you meet people that feel authentic and are so brilliant and amazing in every way, that’s what you do,’ Sabrina noted about her love life. ‘Obviously, I write songs about exactly how I feel, so I guess I can’t be so surprised that people are interested in who and what those songs are about. That’s something that comes with the territory.’
Speculation about their romance grew more prominent after the Work It actress performed at Coachella with Barry front and center at her set.
One user wrote beneath the music video: ‘Sabrina hard launching Barry at the same time warning him not to f*** this up. Mood’
Earlier this month, the Espresso singer played it coy about her relationship status: ‘How do I skirt around this question?’ she replied after being asked if she calls the actor her boyfriend
The notion was a tumultuous love story with the star’s inherent flirtatious twist—something that comes naturally to the Feather artist; seen in May.
One month later, they traveled from the desert to the Big Apple to attend the Met Gala.
Barry and Sabrina opted out of a red carpet appearance and instead met at the top of the famed steps for a shot.
The beauty looked lovingly at her beau, laughing as Barry lifted a top hat in front of his face and stared into the camera.
And indeed, the actor wore an espresso-colored suit.
