A captivating video essay titled ‘The Truth Behind The Caitlin Clark Conspiracy’ surfaced on X Wednesday morning, and has been making major waves.
The 13-minute post (which was created and posted by Frank Michael Smith) argues that WNBA and its players are shooting themselves in the foot (so to speak) by criticizing Caitlin Clark for not being a social activist nor speaking out on societal issues.
An example used is Connecticut Sun guard DiJonai Carrington’s viral post a couple weeks back, after Clark sidestepped a question about her name being weaponized for racism and misogyny during an interview.
Smith argues in the video that the WNBA is trying to turn Clark into Paige Bueckers.
Current Indiana Fever and former Iowa Hawkeyes guard Caitlin Clark (22) and Connecticut Huskies guard Paige Bueckers (5) react in the second quarter in the semifinals of the Final Four of the womens 2024 NCAA Tournament at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.

Bueckers went viral for her speech at the 2021 ESPY Awards for using her platform to call out the lack of media coverage Black female athletes receive compared to their white counterparts.
Smith’s video claims that the WNBA is prodding Clark to adopt Bueckers’ social activist streak, when Clark would clearly prefer to focus solely on basketball.
And the WNBA is costing themselves dearly by trying to make their biggest superstar into something she’s not.
This is but a brief synopsis of a fascinating video that’s well worth your time if you’re a WNBA or Caitlin Clark fan.
