Homelander Actor’s Performance Leaves The Boys Creator Begging for Emmy Win!

The Boys is one of the most obscene television series ever produced, but it has also received accolades for the performances in its more emotional parts. Antony Starr stands out among the ensemble cast, and series showrunner Eric Kripke wonders why the actor hasn’t received an Emmy.

In a new interview with Variety, Kripke discussed how the series’ writing has developed based on what each actor brings to the table with their individual characters. He applies this to everyone, but uses Starr from Homelander as an example. Kripke remarked how Starr’s unusual facial expressions have done a lot to heighten the character’s situations, to the point that the TV series creator is perplexed as to why a Primetime Emmy Award nomination has not yet occurred.

“The short answer is all of them [have been changed],” he said. “I mean, one of the things I love most about television is your ability to evolve and adjust as dailies come in, and you can tailor the role. Once you see what the actor is comfortable with and what they excel at and where some of their blind spots are, you can really start playing to their strengths.”

“Give that guy an Emmy already. I don’t understand why it hasn’t happened yet.”

He added, “In Homelander’s example, Ant’s ability to give 16 facial expressions when another person gives one is just so astounding. Give that guy an Emmy already. I don’t understand why it hasn’t happened yet.”

Homelander is very much meant to be the antagonist of the show, though Kripke has observed how some fans have been oddly rooting for the villain. It could be that Starr’s charisma and stellar performance in the role have contributed to some fans growing fond of the character, despite his atrocities. However, Kripke has been left scratching his head wondering why there are some fans who have gotten that message.

Eric Kripke believes that Homelander supporters are a small minority.

“I have to believe that the ‘bad fans’ are a very small minority,” he stated. “Because I don’t know how you support Homelander. When the guy is sipping breast milk and being the weakest character in the show over and over, and he isn’t even particularly macho. He’s odd. He’s odd and thin-skinned, and I’m not sure how you look at him and go, ‘That’s my guy.'”
