In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kripke has updated the progress of The Boys: Mexico. The showrunner and executive producer shared that a deal is still being worked out with the writer of the pilot, indicating that scripts for the spinoff have yet to be written. News of The Boys: Mexico was officially reported in late November 2023. The project hails from executive producers Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal, who got their breakout roles working together in the acclaimed coming-of-age drama Y Tu Mamá También by director Alfonso Cuarón. The duo have since collaborated in other films and have become veteran performers, with a wide variety of credits. Luna, who plays Cassian Andor in the Star Wars universe, and Luna, who recently starred in Marvel’s Werewolf by Night, could potentially appear in the Mexico spinoff but they are not expected to take on main roles.

At the time of the announcement, it was mentioned that a search was underway for a co-showrunner to join Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, who would serve as creator, writer, and executive producer.
