50 Cent has called for an end to gun violence in Chicago after the city suffered a rash of violence that left seven dead this past weekend.

On Monday (May 6), the Queens native took to Instagram to react to the recent uptick in gun-related crimes in the midwestern ctiy, as there were at least 31 shooting victims between Friday (May 3) and Monday (May 6), with ABC7 Chicago reporting a death toll of seven.

“Come on now, this gotta stop,” Fif captioned a post sharing a screenshot of an X post reporting on the violence. “This ain’t gangster, this is just crazy.”

The G-Unit leader’s sentiment received a mixed reaction, with some on social media pointing to his own musical and creative content as promotion of the exact crimes he’s rallying against. Others, such as one Instagram user with ties to the Chi-Town community, urged 50 to personally step in and assist in their organization’s effort to curb crime within the city.

“Bro it would be Powerful to have you join in on helping us stop this violence in Chicago,” the fan wrote in the post’s comment section. “I work for the Institute For Nonviolence Chicago as the Austin Outreach Supervisor. We know a lot of these young men will be willing to listen to you.”

The violence in Chicago has been a hot topic not only within Hip-Hop, but across the nation as a whole, with the likes of Donald Trump decrying the city’s crime rate, as the former U.S. President did last year. “What’s going on in Chicago?,” Trump asked in a clip that subsequently went viral. “I said the other day, what the hell is going on?”

Chicago rapper Lil Durk later rejected Trump’s negative apprasial of the city, reasoning that crime occurs globally and is not isolated to his hometown. “I really don’t pay it no mind because it’s violence everywhere,” the 31-year-old told MSNBC’s Ari Melber of the negative stigma surrounding the Chi.

“You can get self-defense everywhere, you can 𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁 anywhere, you can stab anywhere, you can choke anywhere, you can kidnap anywhere.”

The hitmaker continued, adding, “It’s just every city has the moment of the rates. If you look up right now who got the most murder rate, I bet you it ain’t Chicago. So now the story transpire to that city. That’s why I never comment on it because every city has its day.”
