Former Panthers quarterback Cam Newton may have some controversial opinions, but he’s never boring. Newton recently joined Shannon Sharpe on the “Club Shay Shay” podcast and the conversation worked its way to Atlanta.
The Falcons signed 35-year-old quarterback Kirk Cousins to a massive contract in free agency and Newton, a Georgia native, doesn’t think it was a wise move:
“That’s egregious, and I love the fact that he’s able to get that money,” said Newton. “But what the Falcons paid Kirk Cousins, they could have got Cam Newton, Justin Fields and Michael Vick for that price.”
Newton also pointed out how the team had no problem giving Cousins $180 million over four years despite coming off an Achilles tear. The former Panthers QB dealt with injuries late in his career but felt he wasn’t given the benefit of the doubt during his recovery like Cousins.
“If you give Kirk Cousins my resume, he probably would’ve got more,” said Newton. “But I’m tripping, but I’m bitter, but I’m mad. I’m not. I’m just exposing the truth.”
