Sam Bankman-Fried only has kind words for his cellmate Sean “Diddy” Combs. The former crypto executive and convicted fraudster is now serving a 25-year sentence at in the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, the same facility where Diddy is awaiting trial on 𝓈ℯ𝓍 crime charges.
The New York Times previously revealed that Bankman-Fried and Diddy are “cellmates,” as they’re both living in a “dormitory-style room with a group of other defendants.” Bankman-Fried was asked about his fellow inmate during a recent interview with Tucker Carlson.
“Have you made friends there?” the former Fox News anchor asked. “Are you hanging with Diddy? I think he’s in there with you,” Carlson asked.
“He is,” the former FTX CEO confirmed. “It’s, I don’t know, he’s been kind. I’ve made some friends. It’s a weird environment. It’s sort of a combination of a few other high-profile cases and then a lot of ex-gangsters—or alleged ex-gangsters.”

Carlson pushed for more details about Bankman-Fried’s interactions with Diddy and asked what the disgraced hip-hop mogul is like behind bars.
“You know, obviously I’ve only seen one piece of him, which is Diddy in prison, and he’s been kind to people in the unit, he’s been kind to me,” Bankman-Fried said. “It’s also a position no one wants to be in. Obviously … it’s kind of a soul crushing place for the world in general. And what we see are just the people that are around us on the inside rather than who we are on the outside.”
Carlson then asked what the other inmates thought about sharing a unit with “two of the most famous prisoners in the world,” referring to Bankman-Fried and Diddy.
“Well, it’s a really interesting question and, of course, some of them think, ‘Wow, this is a big opportunity to meet people they wouldn’t otherwise get to meet,’” Bankman-Fried said, causing Carlson to laugh. “It makes sense from their perspective but, boy, that is not how I think about prison. Laughing’s all you can do sometimes. There’s no better alternative.”
Diddy has been held at Metropolitan Detention Center since his arrest in September. The Bad Boy Records founder is facing 𝓈ℯ𝓍 trafficking and racketeering charges, all of which he denies, as well as multiple lawsuits alleging abuse. His criminal trial is set to begin in May.
