Whyte Gives His Opinion on Joshua’s Retirement and Heavyweight Boxing’s Biggest Struggles

Anthony Joshua still has a lot to offer the boxing world, according to Dillian Whyte, who also maintains that AJ ‘had’ Daniel Dubois exactly where he wanted him before the 27-year-old delivered the “finishing blow” that halted their fight.

In a performance that defined his career, Dubois defeated Joshua on September 21 to maintain his IBF world heavyweight title. At Wembley Stadium, in front of a record-breaking 98,000 spectators, the Queensberry fighter knocked down Joshua four times before winning by knockout in the fifth round.

Joshua was devastated by the loss because he had wanted to overcome the 27-year-old and regain the heavyweight title, making him a three-time world champion.

Whyte is certain that the two-time heavyweight world champion still has more to offer, despite some people questioning whether AJ should think about retiring due to a perceived loss of his “spark.”

‘He’s still got a lot left in the tank and he’s still a big draw,’ Whyte stated in an interview with Sky Sports News after Joshua’s defeat by Dubois.

“As you can see in the fight, he’s still a big puncher,” Whyte said, citing Joshua’s strength as proof that he is still a formidable opponent in the division. Before Dubois delivered the final punch, he had him going.

Whyte rejected the idea that Joshua might retire, saying, “It’s hard to say, he’s young, he’s strong, and he looks in amazing shape.” He still has a lot of strength left.

“In heavyweight boxing, people overemphasize a loss. Because of this, many battles do not occur. They don’t get made because people focus too much on winning, losing, and drawing rather than appreciating that two elite men are now competing against one another, something that wasn’t the case a few years ago.

Fans are already getting excited about the possibility of a rematch between Joshua and Dubois, wanting to see if the drama of their first fight can be replicated.

Given the high stakes and the spectacle of their first confrontation, a second fight between the two would probably be seen by people all over the world.

As the defending champion, Dubois defied convention by arriving at Wembley Stadium first in their first encounter. The 27-year-old showed off his might right on after entering the ring, knocking down Joshua with a huge knockdown in the first round.

At the conclusion of the first round, a surprised Joshua withdrew to his corner to consult trainer Ben Davison. The IBF heavyweight champion pushed forward in the second round, but AJ held his own and survived the storm.

Wembley was stunned as Joshua failed to recover from a brutal right-hook in the fifth round

Joshua was unable to reclaim control of the battle despite his tenacity. He was knocked down once more in the final seconds of the third round by another powerful blow from Dubois.

In the fourth round, Dubois continued to apply pressure, unleashing another devastating hook that clearly worried Joshua’s corner.

The 34-year-old somehow dug deep and stood back up, continuing to move forward in spite of the punishment he had received.

In the fifth round, the bout ended dramatically. The IBF champion countered with a well-timed counter right-hook that sent AJ down for the fourth and final time after Joshua briefly caught Dubois with a strong punch and charged forward.

Joshua fell when he tried to stand up, thus the referee had to end the fight.

Fans are already speculating about a rematch because they want to see if Joshua can recover or if Dubois can repeat his impressive performance.

A rematch has enormous stakes, and the result might have a significant impact on the heavyweight division.
