James Gunn has finished shooting his Superman film, which will be released next year. James Gunn’s DCU promises to change the franchise in big and exciting ways with his grand plan. The DC head has announced a slew of projects that will be a part of his vision of the universe and next year’s Superman is going to kick off the franchise with new actors playing iconic DC characters, led by David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan.

Other supporting characters like Mr. Terrific, Guy Gardner, and Hawkgirl are also set to play pivotal roles in the film The film was earlier titled Superman: Legacy but later changed to simply Superman. A new exciting theory reveals a possible plot for the film that shows a potential meta-nature of how Gunn will showcase his heroes in the film.

Amazon’s “The Boys” offers a more thought-provoking alternative to Marvel and DC’s escapist superhero pictures. The series depicts superheroes as celebrities controlled by a large organization (Vought), which strives to present them in a bright and ideal light despite the organization’s dubious activities.

This is a clear sarcastic reference to how Disney and Warner Bros own Marvel and DC, and how their films are sometimes accused for being produced by corporate committees rather than visionaries. A fan idea on Reddit suggests that James Gunn’s upcoming Superman picture would tackle similar concerns as The Boys, with Superman serving as the catalyst for reform.

The exciting theory suggests that heroes like Mr. Terrific, Guy Gardner, and Hawkgirl will be working under Maxwell Lord and his company. The heroes perform tasks under the orders of the company and they begin to hate being corporate heroes. They feel held back by powerful personalities but working under them was the only way to be heroes without facing any irreversible damage to their reputation.

However, the argument is that Superman will provide them with the much-needed push: they don’t need a firm to help them become the superheroes they’ve always wanted to be. The trio may learn that they can be independent and decide to defy Maxwell Lord’s directives. They may support Superman while they begin to carve out their own legacy on their terms.

A Reddit commenter anticipated that this was the ‘legacy’ mentioned in the film’s previous title, Superman: Legacy. If this is true, Superman will be a really engaging picture that offers more than just spectacle. Similar to The Boys, the film will explore themes of legacy and purpose. While Marvel fans may not appreciate the addition of social commentary, they may come to appreciate the film’s distinct take on Superman.

James Gunn has a compelling reason for wrapping Superman one year before its release.

James Gunn‘s Superman has now wrapped filming and the team is working hard on the post-production process of the film. Wrapping a big superhero film one year prior to its release is rare and Marvel movies usually do reshoot some months closer to release. However, Gunn had already planned for this gap between production and its release date to give enough time to VFX artists to properly do their work.

On Threads, the director said that VFX artists play a key role in bringing these superhero films to life, and it is critical to allow them the time they require for optimal outcomes. While they have already begun working on some CG shots for filming, the one-year hiatus allows them to further create the film’s appearance as much as possible. Gunn wrote:

“If you do some research you’ll see my films have always taken a different approach and I’ve always given my VFX artist-collaborators time to do their jobs properly and the respect they deserve. This is why we wrapped on Superman a year before release and why they’ve been hard at work on many shots for months before that. This is why we start heartily editing during the shoot. I can’t praise the VFX artists that help us create magic enough.”

Superman will include David Corenswet as Clark Kent and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. The film’s ensemble cast includes Isabela Merced, Edi Gathegi, Nathan Fillion, Anthony Carrigan, María Gabriela de Faría, Sara Sampaio, Skyler Gisondo, Nicholas Hoult, and many others.
