The Boys Universe Grows: Detailed Look at Every Upcoming Spinoff!

With many exciting spin-offs lined up for The Boys, it is hard not to be excited about the franchise’s future. As Eric Kripke has confirmed, The Boys season 5 will likely end the parent series of the franchise.

However, as the planned upcoming spin-offs for The Boys suggest, the live-action superhero franchise is not ending anytime soon. It makes sense that Amazon is investing more in expanding The Boys‘ lore through spin-offs and prequels because the franchise, so far, has been both a critical and commercial hit.

While only time will tell whether the upcoming installments of The Boys will continue to expand the franchise’s world-building in a positive direction and maintain the high critical ratings that previous seasons and spin-offs have achieved, the strong foundation set by The Boys promises a bright future for the franchise. Even the announcements and latest updates surrounding the upcoming spin-offs make it hard not to believe that they will live up to the high expectations set by the parent series. And if all goes well, the upcoming planned spin-offs’ success could pave the way for more new installments in the franchise.

Gen V Season 2

Gen V Season 2 Is Expected To Release Sometime In 2025

As confirmed by Amazon MGM executive Vernon Sanders, Gen V season 2 is scheduled to be released sometime in 2025, which could greatly benefit the franchise and maintain audience interest since The Boys season 4 was released in 2024. Before the release of The Boys season 4, Gen V season 2’s filming was initially set to begin in April 2024 but was slightly delayed due to the tragic demise of Chance Perdomo, who played Andre in the spin-off series’ season 1. The show’s filming eventually ensued in May 2024, making a 2025 release possible.

Many young actors, like Maddie Phillips, Lizze Broadway, London Thor, Jaz Sinclair, Asa Germann, and Derek Luh, who led the show’s cast in season 1, are set to reprise their respective roles in season 2. However, as the show’s producers have confirmed, Chance Perdomo will not be recast in season 2. One of the most intriguing additions to Gen V season 2’s roster is Hamish Linklater, who is best known for his role in Mike Flanagan’s Midnight Mass. In Gen V season 2, he will be Indira Shetty’s successor as Goldolkin University’s new dean, Cipher.

“The trailer also confirms that while Sam will continue walking down a villainous path, Cate will reconsider the morally skewed path she has chosen since Gen V ‘s final moments.”

The Boys: Mexico

The Boys: Mexico’s Release Window Remains Uncertain

Despite being officially confirmed in November 2023, The Boys: Mexico has progressed relatively slowly compared to other planned spin-offs for The Boys. Eric Kripke offered some updates surrounding the show’s development by revealing that “there are a lot of hurdles for that show before it’s a real show.” He disclosed that a deal was being made with the writer who offered an “amazing pitch,” but it will be a while before they can start dropping “the Easter eggs and the setups and stuff” surrounding the show’s release.

While Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer has been confirmed as the show’s writer, Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal are its executive producers. Like the parent series, Eric Kripke and Seth Rogen will also be involved with the spin-off in some capacity, suggesting that it might have subtle connections with The Boys. Although The Boys: Mexico‘s story details are still shrouded in mystery, the series could also take the Gen V route and have its narrative intertwined with the parent show. This would pave the way for many cameos from Gen V and The Boys in its story.

Vought Rising

Vought Rising Is The First Prequel Spin-Off In The Franchise

As per the SDCC announcement, the show will unfold in the 1950s, following a “twisted murder mystery” that will walk through the mysterious origins of Vought International. While Jensen Ackles will reprise his role as Soldier Boy in the prequel, Aya Cash will play Clara Vought, who is better known as Stormfront in The Boys‘ timeline. So far, only Soldier Boy and Clara Vought’s return has been confirmed in Vought Rising.

Here’s Kripke’s full statement about the show at the SDCC panel:

“We are excited to bring you the next deranged series from the world of The Boys. It’s a twisted murder mystery about the origins of Vought in the 1950s, the early exploits of Soldier Boy, and the diabolical maneuvers of a Supe known to fans as Stormfront, who was then going by the name Clara Vought. We cannot wait to blow your minds and trouble your souls with this salacious, grisly saga drenched in blood and Compound V.”

The show’s timeline suggests that viewers can expect to see several other supes, like the OG Black Noir, Crimson Countess, Mindstorm, and other members of Soldier Boy’s Payback supe team. While the show will flesh out Soldier Boy and Stormfront’s backstory, it might even walk through Homelander’s origins and the events that led to his creation as Soldier Boy’s “upgrade.” Since The Boys‘ spin-off, Vought Risingwill primarily be based on original material due to the lack of story developments in the comics surrounding the 1950s timeline, it will bring more novelty to the overarching franchise.
