The Boys season 4 episode 7 contains an easy-to-miss Deadpool allusion that is both brilliant and funny. The Boys season 4 continues to incorporate parodies of Marvel and DC Comics superheroes, as it has in previous seasons.

While almost all of these parodies and tributes to prominent superhero franchises are obvious and add weight to the show’s interesting portrayal of morally twisted superheroes, perhaps the most memorable is season 4’s portrayal of an unrecognizable Spider-Man-like character named Webweaver.

Unlike the “friendly neighborhood” figure from the original Marvel Comics and MCU films, The Boys’ Webweaver is utterly anti-Disney due to his numerous vices and strange 𝓈ℯ𝓍ual relationships with Tek-Knight and Ashley Barrett. While the allusion to Deadpool in The Boys season 4 is not as important to the overall story as the representation of Webweaver, it does provide a hilarious opportunity for viewers to appreciate the Amazon show’s attention to detail. At the same time, The Boys season 4’s parodies and superhero references became increasingly timely.

The show draws parallels between Kimiko and Deadpool’s regenerative abilities.

In The Boys season 4 episode 7, Sameer injects the supe-𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁ing virus into Kimiko’s foot before fleeing the scene. As the infection spreads via Kimiko’s bloodstream, her foot quickly becomes covered in white cysts, and Frenchie realizes he must act before the virus infects her essential organs. As a result, he cuts off her leg to keep the virus from infecting other portions of her body.

Like Kimiko, Deadpool, too, walks around with the tiniest legs for quite some time before his regenerated legs grow back to their regular size.

Kimiko has exceptional regeneration s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁s, and a brief view in the next sequence shows her already recuperating, with a strange 𝚋𝚊𝚋𝚢 foot poking out of her leg’s stump. It’s a hit-or-miss moment in The Boys season 4 episode 7. However, it appears hilarious since it exactly recalls a moment from Deadpool 2.

Ryan Reynolds’ character in the Deadpool films also has remarkable healing abilities, allowing him to entirely rebuild his legs after being ripped in half by The Juggernaut in Deadpool 2. Deadpool, like Kimiko, goes about with the smallest legs for quite some time before his regenerated legs return to their normal size. The Boys’ Deadpool homage is even more amusing because the program doesn’t draw attention to it, leaving it as a discreet Easter egg for the MCU’s funniest character.

The boys’ Deadpool reference could not have come at a better time.

Deadpool and Wolverine’s Release is On The Horizon

Given that Deadpool 2 premiered nearly six years ago, including a Deadpool allusion in an earlier season would have lacked heft. However, with Deadpool & Wolverine’s release just around the corner and the Marvel superhero’s popularity at an all-time high, the subtle Deadpool mention in The Boys season 4 is great timing. It not only makes a great reference to one of the funniest moments in Ryan Reynolds’ film series, but it also capitalizes on the current buzz around Deadpool and Wolverine’s upcoming release.
