Unseen Horrors: Starlight’s ‘The Seven’ Ordeal Was Way Worse in the Original Comics!

After joining The Seven, Starlight discovered the horrific truth about Supes’ depravity in The Boys, but the situation worsened for the hero in ways never shown in the Amazn TV show. In The Boys comic, it is revealed that when Starlight sought solace in her partner following her horrific meeting with The Seven, she discovered Drummer Boy, another team member, cheating on her with a nun hero named Holy Mary.

The Seven is the most powerful, well-known, and profitable superteam in the Boys universe. Vought-American created The Seven, who are led by Homelander, Queen Maeve, and The Deep and are well-known among the general public for their heroic actions. However, behind the scenes, the “heroes,” like the majority (if not all) of Supes, are violent and depraved. That was never more apparent than during Starlight’s entrance to The 7. Unfortunately, The Seven’s darker influences filtered down to some of Vought-American’s lesser superteams.

From Teenage Kix to Payback, to the G-Men, even the most minor heroes participate in all kinds of questionable acts. Starlight’s first team, the Young Americans, and her former boyfriend, Drummer Boy, also participated in the depraved acts.

Starlight Walked In On Her Boyfriend, Cheating On Her

The Boys #15 by Garth Ennis, Darick Robertson, Simon Bowland, and Tony Avina

In The Boys #15 by Garth Ennis, Darick Robertson, Simon Bowland, and Tony Avina, Starlight’s time reuniting with her first superteam, the Young Americans is showcased. Annie January, seeking solace from her boyfriend and fellow Supe, Drummer Boy, returned to the Young Americans’ home base to surprise him. However, what she found confirmed that even the lowest-level Supes are depraved individuals, as Starlight found Drummer Boy having an intimate interaction with the nun-themed Supe, Holy Mary.

It turned out Drummer Boy was scared and lonely after Starlight left the Young Americans and joined The Seven, leading him to cheat on Annie with Holy Mary. Drummer Boys’ actions show that even Supes that is supposed to be wholesome (and in this case, conservative and religious) have embraced their more depraved side in The Boys universe. For Starlight, the worst time of her life somehow got even darker, as the cheating spelled the end of her relationship with Drummer Boy, as she would lose faith in God after what she experienced.

This was one of the major moments that broke Starlight’s belief in Supes. She managed to get to the absolute highest peaks of Supe culture by joining the Seven, only to find out that they were a bunch of depraved monsters who really didn’t have any morals to speak of. When she tried to go back to her roots, to people she thought were friends, people she thought loved her, she just found more depravity. Drummer Boy’s betrayal of Starlight put her at the lowest point of her life, but it also drove her into the arms of Hughie, who would eventually go on to be her one true love.

Drummer Boy Was Just Another Example Of Supes Not Being What Starlight Thought

Part of what makes Starlight such an admirable hero is that despite the awful hand she’s been dealt in The Boys universe, from her controlling upbringing, her assault at the hands of The Seven, or finding her first love cheating on her, that she always manages to maintain her strength. However, after the nightmare introduction with The Seven, discovering Drummer Boy and Holy Mary together showed that her time as a hero was even more brutaly than ever portrayed in The Boys television series.

Instead of being broken and losing hope as a result of these tragic events, the comic and television versions of Starlight manage to go on. The comic version of Starlight was pushed back to Hughie due to the trauma she experienced. The TV version, albeit being essentially held hostage by Homelander, would not remain so for long. Starlight resisted, assisted by Soldier Boy and Butcher. Despite the group’s failure, Starlight remains determined to bring down Homelander.
