Grammy-winning artist Usher is making waves beyond the music industry by partnering with tech giant IBM. This collaboration aims to pave the way for diverse youth to explore and excel in technology careers. Usher’s New Look — the singer’s nonprofit organization — is at the forefront of this initiative, offering free courses in AI programming to its students.

Empowering the next generation with AI s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁s

IBM’s S𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁sBuild program will engage with students from Usher’s New Look, providing them with essential tech training. The program is designed to prepare participants for the AI-infused future of the workforce. Usher’s New Look CEO, Careshia Moore, emphasizes the importance of equipping young people with the s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁s necessary to navigate the evolving tech landscape.

Building a foundation for career success

Since its inception in 1999, Usher‘s New Look has been dedicated to nurturing career readiness and leadership s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁s among children and young adults. The S𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁sBuild program will complement this mission by offering courses in AI-related fields, such as resume writing with generative AI, creating AI chatbots and AI prompting. The program also includes training in job interviews and public speaking, setting participants on a path to success in the tech industry.

IBM’s commitment to inclusive tech education

IBM’s involvement in this partnership reflects its commitment to making a positive impact on young learners from underrepresented communities. Justina Nixon-Saintil, IBM’s vice president and chief impact officer, highlights the importance of providing students with the technology s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁s they’ll need for future success.

Expanding opportunities for diverse groups

The collaboration between Usher’s New Look and IBM seeks to ensure that diverse groups are not only familiar with technological advancements but also have the opportunity to strengthen their s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁s. The program will launch in key cities across the United States, including Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles and New York City, with a special incorporation of S𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁sBuild at the July Disruptivator Summit in Atlanta.

As AI continues to shape the workforce and academia, initiatives like this one play a crucial role in bridging the gap and fostering inclusive growth in the tech sector.
