Close but No Cigar! Caitlin Clark, Fever Lose vs. Sun In Nail-Biting Contest

Caitlin Clark, Indiana Fever Lose to Connecticut Sun In Nail-Biting Contest

The Indiana Fever made it interesting but ultimately lost to the Connecticut Sun 88-84. The Fever couldn’t capitalize on their three-point lead at halftime in a closely contested matchup that saw 10 ties and/or lead changes. Caitlin Clark finished with 17 points while shooting 7-16 from the field.

Indiana hasn’t won a game this season, sitting at 0-3. Monday seemed like the game that would get the ball rolling, but despite Clark’s late-game heroics, the Sun closed the door in the last minute of regulation. The Fever struggled from distance, converting only 30 percent of their shots from three-point range, with Clark leading the way with three conversions.

Clark made many timely plays in the fourth quarter, including a bounce pass out of a double team for an assist, courtesy of Aliyah Boston. Clark finished with seven points in the final quarter, as the rookie continues to show a lack of fear in crunch time moments at the WNBA level.

Unfortunately for the Fever, fouls cost them points on the other end, with the Sun capitalizing on their free throws down the stretch. The Sun moved to 3-0 on the season, trailing only the New York Liberty (4-0) in the standings. Connecticut’s Alyssa Thomas led the game with 24 points on an efficient 8-14 from the field.

In three games, Clark averages 17 points on 32 percent shooting from distance and a remarkable 100 percent from the charity stripe.

The Fever’s next game is against the Seattle Storm on Wednesday at 10 p.m. ET.
