The rapper unveiled his latest purchase on social media, much to the delight of fans.
US-based rapper Rick Ross has become the latest celebrity to purchase a private jet, taking to social media earlier this month to show off the Gulfstream G550.
The aircraft is registered as N676AS and powered by two Rolls-Royce engines. Built in 2012, data from FlightAware.com shows that Ross purchased the jet in April 2023. Since then, the aircraft has undergone a makeover by Duncan Aviation and now sports a custom all-black livery with Ross’ name, stylized as Rick Ro$$, emblazoned in gold lettering on the side.
The tail features the logo of Maybach Music Group, the record label established by Ross in 2009. It is not known how much Ross paid for the G550, but similar jets typically cost in the region of $15-20 million, depending on their age.
Ross shot to fame in the early 2000s after signing a multimillion-dollar record deal with fellow rapper Jay-Z. He then went on to found the record label Maybach Music Group. Today he resides in Fayetteville, Georgia, where he also plans to run for mayor next year. Ross is no stranger to luxury vehicles, hosting an annual gathering for fellow car enthusiasts at his Florida mansion.

The Gulfstream G550
The Gulfstream G550 entered into service in 2004, and more than 600 aircraft had been built by the time production ceased in July 2021. The G550 is 96 ft in length and has a wingspan of 93 ft. Its maximum range is 7,770 miles, and the aircraft can carry between 14 and 19 passengers, depending on the cabin configuration. The G550 has since been replaced by the longer-range G600, which first took to the skies in August 2019 and has a range of up to 8,600 miles.
At the 2023 Paris Air Show earlier this month, Qatar Airways Executive, the executive jet arm of Qatar Airways, debuted its first Gulfstream G700. The carrier is currently the largest operator of the G650ER, with 15 of the jets in its fleet.
Popular with celebrities
The US Air Force and Swedish Air Force are among the military operators of the Gulfstream G550, while the State of Kuwait has one for transportation of the country’s royal family. However, Gulfstream’s private jets have also proved extremely popular with celebrities over the years, with Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan favoring the G550 and Kim Kardashian opting for the G650ER.

Celebrities have come under fire recently for their seemingly excessive use of private jets and the subsequent impact on the environment. Last summer, a study by CelebJets showed that the singer Taylor Swift’s aircraft had topped the list of CO2 emissions in the previous six months, followed by that of the boxer Floyd Mayweather. However, Swift’s team quickly pointed out that her jet is regularly loaned out to others, so she was not responsible for all the trips.
