San Francisco 49ers left tackle Trent Williams pointed out a potential bright side to his team ending the dream season of the Detroit Lions: It could fuel some awesome music from Eminem.

Williams was part of Super Bowl Opening Night festivities Monday in Las Vegas when he was asked a colorful question by Guillermo Rodriguez from “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” Did the 49ers star feel bad for making the famed Detroit rapper sad by beating his team?

“Nah, man, I think Eminem makes his best music when he’s sad. So I think he’s gonna have some hot tracks coming out,” Williams said.

The Lions were the feel-good story of the NFL playoffs. After decades without a playoff win, the Lions were one game away from the Super Bowl — until they ran into the 49ers, who came back from a 24-7 halftime deficit to snuff out Detroit’s Cinderella story in the NFL Championship Game.

Eminem, whose birth name is Marshall Mathers, was one of the public faces of the Lions’ run this season. The rapper appeared in a video ahead of the team’s playoff opener against the Los Angeles Rams to make a plea to former Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford.

“You owe me this favor, bro. I was there for you when you won it. I was there for you. I was right there,” he said. “I rapped for you, Stafford. Bro, I rapped for you.”

Williams is one of the best tackles of his era. The 35-year-old is an 11-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro selection. He spent his first nine NFL seasons playing in Washington before being traded to San Francisco in 2020.
