Public Enemy’s Flavor Flav Admits Sobriety Journey Setbacks In New Vow To Fans

Flavor Flav has revealed he fell off the wagon after more than four years of sobriety.

The rapper, 66, who defended Selena Gomez after she tearfully denounced the Trump administration’s mass deportations in January, got real with his fans in an Instagram story on Thursday.

‘I remain authentic to who I am and a large part of the past 4.5 years for me has been my sobriety journey,’ the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award winner wrote.

‘I think I’ve been an inspiration to many that if I could get sober, anyone can do it.’

Before getting clean, the Fight the Power artist said he would spend up to $2,600 a day on cocaine, crack, weed, alcohol, and cigarettes.

‘But just when you think it’s easy, it ain’t,’ he continued.

‘I briefly relapsed,’ he admitted to his fans. ‘I say this to admit my mistake and publicly hold myself accountable.’

Speaking for those who may find themselves in a similar situation he said, ‘I am a human being who makes mistakes and it doesn’t make me a bad person.’

He close with writing, ‘I hope those who are around me support my choice to be sober. I went back to Day 1, again. Time didn’t stop, my journey continues.’

In a 2023 interview on the Off the Record podcast, the hitmaker said, ‘I guess God wanted me to live. And he knows that I’m a mouthpiece to the world,’

‘So, I feel that God let me live through that, so that way, I could teach people about the mistakes that I made. And hopefully, they won’t make them later on in life.’

In October 2024 on World Mental Health Day, the humanitarian offered to help pay for treatment through the Sonia AI app that day.

‘I talk to a therapist,’ he wrote next on social media, ‘In fact, I talk to two.

‘I gots a crazy schedule and travels, my manager recommended trying out Sonia – an AI therapist that has been there for me like Janet Jackson says – Any Time Any Place,’ he explained.

The hitmaker and Public Enemy bandmate Chuck D are getting ready to hit the road on a busy concert schedule beginning May 2 in Memphis, TN

As sobriety managed one day at a time, Flavor Flav will be able to take his AI therapist on the road with him.

He and Chuck D are getting ready to take the road as Public Enemy.

A schedule of dates on his Instagram account indicated shows will kick off in Memphis, TN May 2.

‘THE DATES JUST KEEP PILING UP!! PLENTY OF CHANCES TO CATCH US AROUND THE WORLD, MORE COMING!!’ he wrote next to a schedule of show dates in early March.
