The couple are among the slew of A-listers — including Kim and Khloé Kardashian — attending the billionaire heir’s extravagant, multi-day nuptials in Mumbai, India
Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra dressed to impress for one the most anticipated (and lavish!) weddings of the year.
The Jonas Brother singer, 31, and actress, 41, were seen fashionably arriving in Mumbai, India on July 11, in matching looks ahead of billionaire heir Anant Ambani, 29, and his fiancée Radhika Merchant, wedding weekend. And for Friday’s Hindu wedding ceremony, the couple made their mark in traditional Indian wedding attire — and on the dance floor.
For the occasion, Chopra wore a yellow lehenga set, consisting of a top, flared skirt and over-the-shoulder sash, embellished with crystals and intricate beading. Jonas wore a dazzling pink sherwani, which is a knee-hitting long-sleeve coat, with matching pants and shoes.
According to The Times of India, guests will wear “sarees, ethnic suits, lehenga sets, kurta pajamas, sherwanis, and more” for the traditional Hindu and Gujarati rituals.
Before their appearance, Jonas shared an Instagram video of him and the Citadel star jamming out to “Barbie Girl” as they made their way to the ceremony. “C’mon Barbie… #AnantandRadhika,” he captioned the video.
A video captured by digital creator Viral Bhayani shows the couple lighting up the ceremony with their dance s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁s.
Friday’s ceremony included a traditional Baraat Assembly (a wedding procession for the groom that involves live music and dancing) followed by Milni (when the men from the bride’s side then welcome the groom by exchanging flower garlands and presenting gifts) and Varmala (the commencement of the Hindu wedding, marking the first time the bride and groom meet before starting the wedding ceremony) and Lagna Vidhi, the formal engagement ceremony and announcement of the couple’s marriage.
Ambani and Merchant’s festivities will continue into the weekend, with the “Shubh Aashirwad” on July 13, followed by the grand reception, “Mangal Utsav,” which will be attended by the couple’s guests and family members, on July 14. The event signifies “marking the beginning of the couple’s new life together,” according to The Times of India.
The excitement around the pair’s nuptials have been building up since March, when they hosted a three-day, pre-wedding extravaganza in Gujarat’s Jamnagar in India. The event saw a performance by Rihanna and was attended by A$AP Rocky, Ivanka Trump, Hillary Clinton, Bill Gates and members of Bhutan’s royal family. Their guests — reportedly 1,200 of them, according to Reuters — were also given a detailed nine-page dress code.
The then soon-to-be groom wore a Lorraine Schwartz custom-made lion brooch covered in jewels, including one giant diamond with more than 50 carats.
The couple then set sail on a multi-day cruise in May with loved ones, starting in Palermo, Italy. Vogue reported that the four-day cruise – during which Katy Perry and Pitbull performed – welcomed roughly 1200 guests and made several stops throughout the Mediterranean.
Merchant told the outlet that the cruise was “a retreat for the people that have contributed to our life in different ways.”
